Wellington Town hall
In January 2026, Gutteridge Pipe Organs was subcontracted by Timaru based South Island Organ Company to assist with the reinstallation of the 1906 Norman & Beard instrument.
Work Began on this magnificent 4 manual pneumatic instrument in 2013, when it was removed from the hall to undergo a full restoration. The main components of the organ were shipped to the small town of Timaru on the south Island of New Zealand where the team of South Island Organ Company (SIOC) would spend months carrying out the restoration.
The instrument was scheduled for reinstallation during 2016, but Wellington was shook by the 7.8 Kaikoura earthquake. This would eventually result in the Town Hall undergoing significant earthquake strengthening upgrades which would delay the reinstallation of the organ by almost a decade.
Due to the shear scale of the project, SIOC ventured overseas to seek assistance with the reinstallation of the organ. In total, Gutteridge Pipe Organs spent 10 Weeks working alongside the good team of SIOC in the vibrant city of Wellington.
